As the founder of the The Women’s Society, I feel compelled to respond to the recent discussions surrounding the establishment of a women’s society at Cambridge. The idea of creating spaces specifically for women is not only timely but essential in our evolving social landscape. Women’s societies have historically served as vital platforms for empowerment, support, and advocacy. They offer a safe space for women to connect, share experiences, and tackle issues that uniquely affect us. In a world where women continue to face challenges in various spheres—be it in education, the workplace, or society at large—such initiatives are crucial in promoting solidarity and collaboration.

While the formation of a women’s society is commendable, it is equally important to ensure that the discourse around gender remains inclusive and respectful. Recognising the diverse experiences of all women is essential. Women from different backgrounds, including those who identify as transgender, have unique perspectives that enrich our understanding of gender issues. Instead of viewing this as a polarizing issue, I encourage open dialogue among all members of the community. By engaging in respectful conversations, we can navigate differing views and find common ground. It’s vital that any women’s society at Cambridge promotes inclusivity, ensuring that every woman feels represented and heard.

I urge the proposed society to embrace a mission that fosters unity and understanding. Let us work together to create an environment where all women feel empowered to share their voices and experiences. This is an opportunity for Cambridge to lead by example in promoting a thoughtful and inclusive approach to gender discussions. In conclusion, I wholeheartedly support the establishment of a women’s society at Cambridge, provided it upholds the values of inclusivity and respect. Together, we can build a community that celebrates all women and empowers them to thrive.
